ALT(GPT) count level 20

by rjab, Jul 03, 2008 01:04AM
Hi everybody,
My partner has got HCV genotype 1c ; from last 10  years and he was not aware of it since 4 years back he knew about it. He started the interferon and Rybywirine therapy and now his blood test results show that his HCV is negative but HCV in RNA is still positive. My first question is that this mean he is still ill and secondly he feels very strong iritation in his liver now a days. he has his blood test done and it appears that ALT (GST) and AST(GOT) level are both 20. Is there any way or natural therapy which can be helpful in order to slow it down?
thanks
Jab

Not sure what yo mean by "his HCV is negative but HCV in RNA is still positive"?
If his HCV RNA is positive that means he still has the virus and his liver disease will continue to progress. Apparently the treatment didn't work.

In order to cure himself of the HCV virus he needs to understand why the first treatment didn't work and then think about if and when he wants to retreat. If he has only had the virus for 10 years he may want to wait for better treatments coming in the next few years.
He should talk to his doctor about this.

Is he still on the treatment or has he finished? Can't quite tell from your post.
If the latter the doctor is probably saying that his liver function tests are normal but that there is active virus still present.
If this is the case then Hector's response is spot on.
There is a whole world of debate about whether supplements.can provide a benefit in slowing disease progression but no universally accepted scientific evidence. As previously stated a patient with a ten year infection is likely to have time in hand to wait for the new and better tratment protocol we expect to have out in 2010.
