Not Getting Used to Dental Crown

by joe83, Jul 03, 2008 03:06AM
Hi, ever since I've broken my incisor to the right of my front incisor along the upper row of teeth, I have had a porcelain crown to restore the broken tooth.
However, the crown bonded to the tooth is not constructed as precisely as the lateral tooth on my left, thus I can feel the symmetrical difference in my mouth.  It isn't really comfortable as it feels like theres a bulge of extra porcelain material as compared to my tooth on the left.

My question is, should I be getting used to the crown or should a crown be made as precise as the original tooth before it was broken?

The crown should be as precise as the original tooth before it was broken.   If you're feeling a bulge, I would suggest the crown needs to be relooked at.   When I had a crown fitted on a molar years ago the dentist tested my bite very thoroughly and I could feel that part of the crown was sitting just a little bit too high and was not comfortable at all.   From memory all he did was "shave" a little bit off the top with a high speed drill and the problem was solved and then it felt exactly the same as what my original tooth had.  If you're feeling any discomfort, I'd get it looked at again.

Thanks for taking time to address my issue Angel. :)

Next Tuesday will be my review session, hopefully this time it can be shaven to the correct fit.  Hope to come back with good news!
