Perimenopause after Tubaligation????

by nosinina, Jul 03, 2008 08:59AM
I had a baby 5 months ago by c-section.  I also had a tubaligation done at the same time.  Every since I had this I have had a pain on my left side about where my ovary should be.  I can feel a lump when I am standing and it is painful to touch.  When I lay down however I cannot feel it.  I also have been having horrible periods and mood swings.  My last three periods were 15 days, 17 days and 3 days.  The last one was so short and it was also a week late.  I wasn't on the pill before I had the tubal and had fairly reg. periods, 5-7 days.  My moods swings are horrible too.  I feel like I am going to have a raging tantrum all the time, or cry.  It is not like depression it is different and no matter how much I try to be happy I am still grouchy, not all the time, but about 75%.  Also, absolutly no sex drive.  Hubby doesn't like that so much.  The symptoms have been getting worse every month that goes by.  Do you think that the doctor may have nicked my ovary and it is sending me into menopause?? Sorry for the long post.  Any opinions would be wonderful.

In order to go into menopause they would have to completely remove the ovaries. It sounds like you're experiencing hormone fluctuations. You've been through a lot the last 5 months between giving birth, having a c-section, having the tubal ligation plus taking care of a new baby. You're probably exhausted too.

Your periods are going to be off for awhile. I take it you're not nursing because most of the time nursing Moms don't have periods for awhile. It really could be a bit of post-partum depression. I had it with my firstborn and it was weird. Just so cranky and tired and wanted to run away from home. You can talk to your doctor about that and see if there's some way to get you over the hump.

Fatigue will kill your sex drive. No doubt about it. Hubby will have to be patient and you can just give him pleasure by hand or something until your body is back to normal.

As for the lump, perhaps you have a small hernia from the surgery. You mentioned that you can't feel it when you lie down. That's typical. A hernia will bulge a bit when standing but everything settles back into place when you lie down. Do see your doctor about that. It may heal on its own in time or they may have to fix it.

Hang in there. It will get better. Babies can be fun when you're not so tired.

This is my 5th child and I have had post partum depression with two of them, this is different.  When I was depressed it was like I was sad about everything.  With this, I am not sad at all, just frustrated that I cant snap out of it.  I think about things I normally wouldn't get mad about and just seeth on them until I am angry, then I grouch at everyone.  I am still patient with my kids but am not the happy self I normally am.  The reason I ask about menopause is that I read that if the ovaries are injured it can cause them to shut down.  I don't know, just grasping for answers.  Thanks for your post, it was nice to hear some input.
