Midly impaired systolic function

by Jupiter2, Jul 03, 2008 12:24PM
Had a Nuclear Cadio Stress test done, and was wondering what the following items mean:
“post stress images show severely reduced to no radiotracer activity in large area of lateral inferolateral walls”, and “there is a regional wall motion abnormality with severe hypokinesis of lateral and inferolateral walls”?

Severe hypokinesis means an impairment of heart wall movement (contractions) in the location described.  If it isn't an artefact, it can indicate a previous MI and damaged heart tissue.

Impaired systolic function indicates the heart's pumping contractions are mildy reduced.  Your test should have calculated the heart's pumping functionality by calculating the ejection fraction (EF).  If the heart's cells are seriously damaged the EF would probably be below 30%.  Normal EF is about 55 to 75%, and that calculation would be the amount of blood pumped out with each heartbeat.
