Help- is this herpes or????

by ahh333, Jul 04, 2008 03:03AM
My history:  yeast common, get at least one yeast (type) infection a year and several mild ones cleared up with just topical cream for a day.
Also have recurring TInea Veriscolou (a fungal infection of the skin) and since moving to a hot place
I also get bad eczema like itchyness (turns to raised bump sores when itched) on my neck, eyelid and ear
I take Yasmin Birth Control (3 months on, one week off)

January - had unprotected sex (not smart I know, I do know this person as a friend)- then he never called- so since I know him and felt terrible about unprotected sex I came to the worst possible conclusion of why he didn't call- he has something (I have no idea if this is true- I would hope that he'd tell me as we know each other- and are now on fine friendly terms again)

about 2 1/2 weeks after that night I got a very bad yeast infection (self diagnosed)- with white chunky discharge and extreme itching. So bad I itched it raw- and it hurt to pee for a day- but it cleared up right away from over the counter treatment- the whole episode lasted about 4 or 5 days

then all was well until about a month ago- then another yeast infection (again self diagnosed) right after menstruation- very very itchy again and same discharge- feeling worried so I had a look at what was going on and there were some cracks in the skin in the perianum and the surrounding skin and the skin was really dry between bouts of discharge- they were not at all painful and very shallow- they healed in a day and then re-appeared after exercise- but again everything was gone with over the counter treatment within 5 days (2 days after treament). (did not treat with cream right away as have always done in past- not sure why, just scared and wanted to see what it would turn into I guess...same goes for the rest of this story)

Then 3 weeks later I started feeling a bit itchy again- (I will add that I have been dating someone for the last 2.5 months and we have frequent, fairly rough sex)- but I had been having lots of sex that weekend and used baby oil as a lube in a pinch - then didn't shower until late the next day- so I figured that caused the irritation. The next day there was some chunky white discharge and for some reason I decided to rinse the area with diluted apple cider vinegar- it seemed fine for the rest of the day so we had sex that night. The next day was itchy again with discharge and was experiencing loose-ish bowel movements (usual when I worry) and wiped my self raw- at this point i became obsessed with poking and prodding around worrying what was happening down there- still really paranoid and so scared I could pass this on to my new BF as unsafe non penatrating sex has become common. The more I pulled the skin tight to 'see everything' the more the skin around the anus got tiny tears- they were a bit uncomfortable- and the dicharge didn't stop- so I treated for yeast again and gone the next day- (lasted 6 days- waited to treat for some reason- all problems itching discharge etc gone the next am after night suppository treatment)- I am so scared that this could be herpes now that I have looked it up.

There was no pain, no blisters, no smelly discharge, no fever, flu anything like that- no scabs- the skin just closed up like there was nothing

The internet is freaking me out- some sites say yeast is really really common and recurring yeast can cause the skin to become thin and tear easily (I have no idea if these shallow tears/cracks every appeared in the past because I never looked) and that recurring yeast is quite common

But then others make it sound like Herpes

and others still say skin problems- I know I need to visit the doctor but that does not help me tonight or while I would wait for tests (all symptoms are gone for few days now)

I am so scared that if it was herpes my boyfriend has it now

We did have sex during the last episode of whatever is happening (seemed gone, at the time, after day 1, but came back)-

Does any of this sound like it could be herpes- I am so worried.
I am overseas and not covered by health care and they told me that it will be hundreds of dollars for the tests etc. so I am turning to this type of thing for help.

Again I'll clarify that vaginal irritation is not abnormal and since having something horrible has been on my mind I think I might be focusing on it more - also I have no idea if the cracked type skin has happened in the past- I have only looked recently. It is painless and the area does not turn red or inflamed and they close up within a day or two

sorry I didn't mean to post this here- but if anyone has any thoughts they'd be much appreciated! I feel like I'm going mad

yasmin is reknown for causing vaginitis issues in some women on it.

At this point the only thing you and your partner can do is to continue following up on this with your providers. You need proper testing as jess already told you in your previous thread.  As Dr Hook told you - there's not an easy way for us to tell you yes or no - you'll need the follow up to determine what all is going on.

Thanks Grace,

I know testing is in order- I will try to find a free clinic as I am not covered by medical

I had never even considered that this could be related to birth control- when I think back I started on Yasmin right when it came out- so a long time ago- and most of what I describe has happened since then(including the skin probs) and at that time I had been sexually active with only one person who tested neg for HSV1 and 2....I have tried to look for some more information on BC and yaginitis but can't seem to find any and Dr's never want to admit the Pill could cause any problems. any advice where to follow up on this?
thanks

yasmin affects your hormones differently than other bc pills do. All bc pills have vaginitis as a complication of being on them - just some of them are more likely to cause it than others due to the different sorts of hormones in them.  If you read the insert that comes with your pack of pills you'll see that vaginal infections is even listed on it as a possible side effect ( or check their website if you don't get the insert with your pills ).
