Inflammed Sclera of Eye in my Toddler??

2 Weeks ago my 2 1/2 year olds left eye suddenly became red, inflammed and swollen.  He constantly was rubbing it.  I took him to his pediatrician and he ruled out pink eye and an object in his eye.  He gave us a prescription for the eye called vigamox, which is a strong antibiotic, and said he had some kind of allergic reaction to something.  The swollen eye went down after a day and the redness was slowing disappearing.  I also took him to an eye specialist the other day and he ruled out anything serious and said he may simply have allergies.  Just yesterday, I got the call from the day care yet again stating that his left eye swelled up again.  This time, I noticed that the sclera, white portion, of the eye was swollen and raised with a clowdy faint dark red/brown color.  I took him to our local eye doctor for another opinion and to help us to find out what is going on!  He said he has an infection in the eye which is severe with inflamed tissue.  He gave us a prescription of Alrex, which is loteprednol.  I am very worried that the doctors are missing something.  Is this a normal reaction to an eye infection for a toddler??  What do we do or go from here???  I am worried that this will happen again?  I don't want him to have permanant damage??? Help someone!

I can't make sense out of your treatment: "no infection" then put on one of the strongest antibiotic drops available, then "infection" and put on a mild steroid drop.

Get another opinion FROM AN EYE MD OPHTHALMOLOGIST, not a pediatrician, not an optometrist.

This whole situation is a big question mark????  I have taken my son to 3 doctors and they all 3 say something different and prescribe the opposite of what they say?  I am confused with this whole thing and need an answer that makes sense.

As I said many "eye doctors" are optometrists who are not physicians, who are not MDs, who have not been to medical school, internship and residencies. They have spent millions and millions of dollars lobbying to pass laws allowing them to treat disease they are not trained to take care of.

See an Eye MD ophthalmologist. If you did, chose a different one.

I saw an eye MD specialist today and he has said my son had a severe allergic reaction to something and for both episodes to have happened at day care then that should be the first place to locate what has an affect on him.  I just will stay constantly worried that his left eye will flare up again and again until we find the cause!

Update!  My son has not had a flare up in his left eye since last Thursday until today.  We were just at my friends house, who has 5 dogs and a cat that lives inside her house, and we were there for 15 minutes when all of a sudden....my son rubbed his eye a couple times and within 10 minutes his left eye was inflamed!  I rushed to the drug store to get Benedryl liquid and then gave him his anti-inflam eye drops.  It now seems to be calming down but OHHH MYYYY GOOODNESS!  He is severely allergic to pets!  That we do know!

Ask your ophthalmologist about trying Zaditor an highly effective over the counter anti allergy drop (USA).
