Post graft recovery

I had a fractured lateral malleolous in december 07, after 6 months non union was noticed ina CT scan. On the 11th of June08 I had surgery with a bone graft from the hip. And have 6 weeks in a cast.
I want to know if I could get back to work, (kayaking) after the cast is removed.?! I dont expect any major impact while kayaking?
Appreciate any advice as staying away from work second time in a year is driving me mad. Also I dont want to ruin anything.
