What is the probability that a 30 cm cyst once will removed, may return?

My 22 year old daughter was having extreme abdominal pain and nausea and we took her to the emergency room.  Well about 12 hours later, we were informed she had a 30 cm ovarian cyst coming from her left ovary.  We were in shock.  She is about to go into surgery next week, as we are in a holiday weekend, so she came home with pain meds, only to return sunday evening, so she didnt just sit there all weekend.  The doctors and nurses kept saying "how they have never seen anything so big before"  (thats something you want to hear).  But my question is, How often are cysts that size, Cancer.  It runs in my family and it has us scared.  They said the density is the same throughout and it appears lighter (so they dont think it is blood).  But i understand that while she is open on the table, the cyst will be sent to pathology to find out if it is cancer.  It seems like there are still so many unanswered questions, that will only be answered on surgery day.  How often do cysts like that turn out to be cancer and what is the probability she will deal with this again.  She has no children and will most likely be left with one ovary?

Hi There,
Yes ovarian cysts can grow to that large size. From the description, it sounds very benign , like a big balloon full of water. She may need to have her whole ovary removed. It will be analyzed microscopically. The final report will take about a week to come back but there will be a prel9minary report in the operating room.

The stretch on the abdomen of a large cyst can hurt. However if she is in so much pain, her doctor may need to consider surgery sooner.
It does sound like all the right steps have been taken .
please let us know what is found.
best wishes.
