You should have him see another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. The outlook for the bad eye is very poor. Mostly he needs to care for and protect his good eye. That means wearing glasses all the time to protect the eye, seeing an ophthalmologist yearly, taking great care not to injure the good eye, not smoking, watching his weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugars as he gets older.

I am not an MD, but I have a serious eye condition. The doctors here are more familiar with what those symptoms might mean. Your brother should see an eye MD, an Ophthalmologist. He can find one at www.aaa.org.

If he has already seen an eye MD, call the doctor and ask for a clearer explanation with an exact diagnosis.

You could then use that information to do a search on the forum, orin the archives (old posts) here.

A second opinion from another eye MD might be very good, since you have been given a serious diagnosis.

You are so kind in helping your brother. Let us know if we can help you more.

A doctor will respond here, also.

I wish the best for both of you.
