Post-appendectomy STI??

Ten days ago I had an appendectomy.  On the second day after my release from the hospital, I masturbated.  Everthing seemed fine, except that the discharge at orgasm was cloudy and thicker than usual.  About 5 days later, my penis began to itch terribly.  I am uncut and the "hood" became inflamed (not sure if this is from all the scratching or if this is a symptom itself), and I noticed small granule-like things on the head of the penis.  No discharge or rash.  I've never had an STI and wondered if I could have transferred bacteria from my healing wound to my penis when I masturbated, urinated, etc.  Does this sound like an STI?  It does to me, but I will not see my doc until some time next week and am quite anzius.

By definition, you cannot have an STD.  (On this forum we use the terms STD and STI interchangeably.)  You can only have an STD through sexual exposure.

Can the genitals be infected with non STD bacteria, like staph, strep, E. coli, and the like? And could such an infection be transmitted by contact with another wound, already infected with such bacteria?  Yes, of course.  However, such an infection would not get into the urethra; it would only be a superficial problem, i.e. a skin infection of the penis.  Further, although such transmission is theoretically likely, it would a very unusual situation.  Finally, the itching and "granule like things" are not symptoms of any STD or, probably, any other infection.

In summary, you cannot have an STD, and I doubt you have an infection transferred from your appendectomy wound.  I cannot say whether or not you have some sort of penile rash.  Discuss it with your doc when you follow up next week; or if the symptoms seen severe, call for an earlier appointment.  But from your description, I see no serious concerns here.
