After taking Hydrocodone because of Wisdom Teeth

by Theegg, Jul 06, 2008 02:36AM
I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few weeks ago and i was prescribed Hydrocodone to take 1 to 2 every 8 hours.  I only had 18 of them and i took them as directed until my pain stopped.  After i stopped i was feeling fine, then about 3 or 4 days after i stopped taking it i started feeling very depressed. I looked at a few websites about Hydrocodone to see more information about the drug.  My girlfriend noticed that i had been very sad the past few days after I abruptly stopped taking the Hydrocodone.  I was prescribed to take 1 to 2 every 8 hours so i followed directions not missing a dose by more than 5 minutes.  I was taking 8 pills a day and then i stopped, I felt just fine the first day or so then i started feeling a little more insecure than usual.  I had no problems post removal so the only explanation i have found for feeling so depressed was from the Hydrocodon. any help i can get would be appreciated alot.

So, Can Hydrocodon cause a major depression feeling (exactly like Dysthymia) after I stop taking it?

It is possible to have changes in mood and emotions during the period of time when the narcotics are in your system.  Having surgery can also stir up these emotions.  It is rare in either of these cases

My suggestion for you is to notify your surgeon of your situation so they can keep track of your progress.  If you have ever suffered from any psychiatric illnesses in the past, then you should also call your mental health professional.
