vision

my son is 15 years old and over the past two years his vision has changed from20/20 to 20/200.  He has not had an injury that I know of.  although he does play football.  Last summer he was 20/80.  He has been referred to an optimologist.  Wondering what could cause this.

Myopia (nearsightedness) or astigmatism are the most common possibilities.  The ophthalmologist will give him a thorough exam and most likely glasses or contact lens will give him normal vision.  There are rarely other causes, but that is why he will be seeing an ophthalmologist to make sure he has healthy eyes otherwise.
