Herpes blisters can be painful or cause no pain at all - symptoms vary from person to person.  It will usually take a week or two for the blisters to heal and in the meantime there will be no symptoms at all.  Recurrences can occur frequently (usually no more than one per month) or can be very infrequent.  Basically, if you have any type of genital blister-painful or not-it is important to get checked out.
