I was at a concert and i kissed a girl that i barely knew, i found out later on that night that she kissed someone who me and my friends suspected of having oral herpes 2 hrs before she kissed me. i thought everything was fine until about 22 days later i woke up with a small sore on my lip. Is this definitely hsv2 or could this just be a coincidence.

To put your mind at ease, go see a doctor, besides its not like it was confirmed the person she kissed had oral herpes, you only suspect it.

Statistically - 1 out of every 2-3 adults has hsv1 orally. It's THAT common.  That means that most of the people all of you are kissing has oral herpes.  The majority of folks who have oral herpes - aren't getting obvious cold sores to know it.

If you have a sore on your mouth and are wondering if it's herpes or not then you need to go be seen by your provider. It could be many things.  It's VERY unlikely to be hsv2 though - that's almost always genital and even folks who do have it orally aren't likely to transmit it to someone else because it doesn't reoccur very often and doesn't shed often either. Oral herpes is almost always hsv1.

It sounds like you and your friends could really use to learn more about herpes in general. It's incredibly common and something we all need to know more about. I suggest you check out the herpes ( and other std info ) info at www.ashastd.org. Pass the link onto your friends too so all of you can benefit from reading it.
