Bite or worse?

by Linatron, Jul 07, 2008 05:19PM
I was reading a post and it sounded similar to what i am experiencing, so i thought i would ask.  (for reference, here is the post i originally read: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Dermatology/messages/35243.html)

SEVERAL months ago (i think it was march) i was bitten by something (i think).  I had a red raised bump on the bottom of my foot with what appeared to be two little bite marks on top.  It was painful and itched something fierce.  Eventually this sort of went away, but before it was completely healed, next to it there appeared a little bubble of skin filled with pus--also EXTREMELY itchy.  Since then, each time one of these little bumps has started to go away, another has appeared.  It is SOOOOO itchy.

THe skin in this area is very dry and cracking, and the entire area is now slightly larger than a half-dollar in diameter.  I have tried using benadryl cream, and after bite to try to not scratch it to see if that would help.  It has not gone away.

I do not know what to do about this--who to see and what my next course of action should be.

I appreciate all the help!  Thanks

Hi

This sounds like an insect bite that has been infected. Wash the area with warm water and with a mild cleanser. Also, apply topical antibiotics over the area. Mupirocin ointment may be applied thinly, once daily after cleansing the area. See if the affected skin responds in 3 days. If the condition persists this requires further evaluation.

Bacteria may colonize and infect the skin which has been wounded. Staphyloccocal bacteria are the more common pathogens. Refrain from unnecessarily touching the area.
