Isolated back pain and intense headaches...?

by painfulfellow, Jul 08, 2008 07:09AM
Almost 2 weeks ago, when sitting at my computer at work, I started getting an intense pain in the lower back of my head on the left hand side which seemed to intensify when I stared at the computer.  I also noticed what appeared to be tightness and soreness in a muscle about 6 inches below my neck on my back left of my spinal cord.  I assumed I just tweaked a muscle, but it's been 2 weeks and the muscle pain and intense headaches continue and neither has subsided in the least.  Any idea what this could be?  I'm 44 and in relatively good health but defintely had a very stressful time the last 2 weeks with quarter end at work.

Hi

It sounds like a tension headache which is caused by stress. Get a good muscle relaxant and go for a massage, to a physio or for acupuncture. You can also put some Voltaren gel on your neck/shoulder area where the muscle pain is. Hope you get better soon!

From the information given I would say that you have suffered what is sometimes called a soft tissue injuries to the cervical spine, which could have been present before  you start feeling. The stess job could aggravate and bring about more symptoms from this pre-existing problem. I would agree that physical therapy, intensive acupuncture, and mobilization exercises can be helpful
