Burning throat, raw feeling gums, front tooth trauma

by cast228, Jul 08, 2008 12:26PM
About 18 months ago I had 3 implants on the top right side.  About 9 months later my 30 yr. old caps were removed on the uppers and replaced with new ones.  When the bridge was cemented on the implants my gums immediately started burning.  A week later I returned to the dentist so he could examine the area around the implants (made of porcelain).  He said everything looked ok, but the gums continue to burn.  Then about 5 months ago I had to have a new cap on the lower right molar.  Since the tooth felt sensitive when chewing I started chewing on the left side, which then made my whole upper mouth ache.  The pain was horrific.  Along with this issue, my #8 front tooth has an old post in it from about 30 yrs. ago.  Two years ago I bumped it pretty hard, but the dentist who did my work said it was ok, so he continued with the caps, etc.  The #8 has a little movement, not much, but on occasion I can hear it click if I rub my finger across it.  I'm not sure if my teeth have anything to do with this, but my throat feels like it's on fire, my gums near the implants sometimes feel raw, my heart races, I'm on blood pressure pills now because of it, and all the drs. I've been to say everything looks ok on the xrays.  If the #8 has a fracture that cannot be seen on an xray, could it be the cause of the pain?  My dentist said if I get the tooth replaced with an implant and a new cap, it won't look as nice as it does now because I just had all this work done.  I've been to an ENT dr. in January, the  implant dr. twice, a periodontist, and all the xrays show nothing.  I'd hate to have a tooth removed and not have that be the problem.  Also, my molar on the upper right, which isn't part of the bridge also has movement.  The teeth don't hurt like a toothache, but everything burns.  The pain/burn makes my heart race.  I am taking Zanax to calm the anxiety.

If there is no pathology identified, seeing an orofacial pain specialist is advised.
