Ovarian Cyst & Uterus Thickening

by VBecker, Jul 08, 2008 02:09PM
I'm a 27 yo female with 2 children who are 7 and 1. I had my son June 26, 2007. I had a long labor and ended up with a c-section. I had my yearly pap a month after I had him and everything was okay. About a month ago I started having pain which I thought was my tailbone. At first it only hurt when I was driving and it has gotten progressively worse. Now it hurts whenever I'm sitting down and hurts even worse when I stand up. I had gone to my family doctor and was sent for an x-ray; which came back normal. I went for a CT Scan and got a call from the doctor today saying I needed to call and make an appointment with my OBGYN because a cyst was found on my right ovary and they found some wall thickening. My periods have been irregular for the past few months as well.

The exact findings of the CT Scan are as follows:
"There is a cyst of ther ight ovary of approximately 2.42cm x 1.91 x 3.41cm in size. The right adnexal mass could be cystic ovarian lesion. An endometrioma would be part of the differential diagnosis in a young patient. Pelvic ultrasound with transvaginal imaging is suggested. A follow up pelvic ultrasound is suggested in six to eight weeks to assure resolution of the right adnexal mass. The endometrium is slightly prominent measuring approximately 20.8 mm. Clinical correlation is suggested. If the patient has dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometrial biopsy might be considered. The patient may have some wall thickening of the rectosigmoid area which is incompletely distended with luminal contract."
My periods have been irregular for the past few months as well.

Do you know what I can expect to happen at my gyno appointment. Do the findings ring a red flag for you?

Hi There
First of all, you should get your records from your c-section. That will give good information about what your ovaries looked like last year.

Second, you need a follow up ultrasound. it is so common to have ovarian cysts that come and go in relation to the menstrual cycle. it will be important to establish whether this little ovarian cyst is transient or continues to be there at your next
check.
it sounds like you have a good and thorough doctor
take care
