Supplements how much is too much?

by hey3, Jul 08, 2008 06:27PM
I recently bought, the wife of the subject of this post, a liquid "organic" multivitamin for myself. I take the recommended 1 oz daily. On the directions it says "may be taken more than once per day when you need a boost." It is quite expensive and realize now I probably should not have ordered it. If it says organic anywhere on anything I buy my other half guzzles it. I just recently had surgery and have dry eyes which could be the first symtom of RA, Lupus or sjorgrens syndrome. So I thought the a multi vitamins and some omega 3's probably couldn't hurt me. For vit A, B's Biotin, C, E, selenium and zinc it has for one ounce more than 100% of the RDA. I have seen him take it at least 2 to 3 times a day.He also eats a healthy chocolate power pars 2-3 a days sometimes not always. My question is could he be getting too much of the fat soluable vitamins and become toxic? It has 15,000IU or A and E 300IU. He won't listen to me so if you could send me to a website that may help with this.

Thanks
Hey3

Yes, it is very important that we only take the recommended dose of all vitamins and minerals regardless if the vitamins are fat or water soluble. That is why there are recommended doses so our bodies do not build up the vitamins and minerals to toxic levels and have medical issues. You can look at the American Dietetic Association website www.eatright.org or the Harvard Univ. has good information on vitamins, www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/vitamins.html
