5 week ultrasound hcg 10,000 no embryo WORRIED

by singlehappypregnant, Jul 09, 2008 07:10AM
Here is my situation. . . . Have you ever seen the movie knocked up?  Well replace the leading man with an ex boyfriend who was separated and is now back with his wife. . . and the condom going from never getting on to getting lost inside me!  I know, way to much info. . .

So  I am a single mom to be and terrified.

The company I worked for went out of business about 6 months ago so I have no insurance presently.  I applied for medicaid for my pregnancy but its going to take a bit.

So at exactly 5 weeks from the first day of my last period I dragged myself into the emergency room because I needed to see it. .. I just couldn't wait the 45 days and I was a disaster.

No pain, no bleeding . . .just feeling way too hormonal for 5 weeks to the day. . . I kept thinking maybe twins. . .maybe ectopic . .. . .  extreme paranoia.  I was overwhelmed and i had to get some answers.

Well the 5 week 0 day  hcg tests brought in  level of over 10,000. .  but they could not find any embryo.
Single intrauterine gestational sac with yolk sac present.

The doctor feels that while it may be too early to see anything. . . the hcg level is so elevated its not quite comprable to the fetal stage not revealing a heartbeat. . .

So my questions are as follows.

Can there be a second sac somewhere they missed (its was transvaginal ultrasound)

and could it be in a place it shouldnt be?

Also can you see a gestational and yolk sac in the uterus and still have an ectopic pregnancy?

Is it normal to see nothing at 5 weeks even with hcg levels at over 10,000.

I know that exactly one week before at 4 weeks exact my levels were 367.

What are the signs of a molar pregnancy . . . I read that can create elevated hcg and reveal no embryo.

I am totally afraid. .. thank god for my sis because I am going to have to ride this pregnancy out alone, my ex's wife does not want him anywhere near me for at least a year. . .  and I just HAVE to make sure that my little baby to be is ok.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Im sorry to hear what your going though and i dont know that i can be much help but your hcg levels are VERY VERY high for 5 weeks.  Your 4 week levels make since but its crazy that the rose that much in a week. As far as only seeing the sac at 5w there really isnt much to see but with your nembers being so high it just doesnt make sense.  Im sorry im pretty sure none of this was much help... are they going to do another ultrasound? I know at 7w i have a transvaginal ultra sound and we could see the babys heart beat and a little bloob alien looking thing. I wish you luck, hopefully everythings ok.

At 5 weeks my HCG levels were about 7300, but they did see an embryo and little heartbeat....

I think the level of HCG is fine for your stage but they should see an embryo by now with that level.

My doc always told me at 2500-3000 they should see something....

Good Luck to you.
