Cause of epididymitis???

by maxie68, Jul 09, 2008 03:39PM
My bf was having discomfort in his left testicle for the past 2 wks. Yesterday we went to the doctor and they stated it looks as though he is epididymitis. I was reading that a common cause is Chlamydia and I even brought that up to the doctor. The doctor said that it can be caused by bacteria not just bacteria from Chlamydia and I shouldn't worry about that and we can continue to have sex. My boyfriend has no other symptoms, no discharge, burning, etc. He says that he has not been with anyone else and I know that I haven't so could something else have caused this? I myself have not symptoms but I read that sometimes women don't. He always practices good hygeine but has been having a battle with MRSA. It started on one toe, then spread to the other foot, and then most recently it spread to his underarm and developed an abcess that had to be drained. Could this have caused it? He is diabetic so his healing time is not as quick. Could a yeast infection cause the bacteria? He had been on heavy antibiotics at one time too and he is uncircumcised? Even though the doctor was NOT concerend about it being an STD I am still worried because of all the information that I have read. Please advise. Thank you!

Hi,

Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis and can occur in response to an infecton or just local irritation. Infection can be bacterial or viral.

Infections can occur even with other bacteria and not just chlamydia or other organisms causing STDs. Some of these can even be the normal bacterial flora in the vagina.

As he already has an immunocompromised state of health, in view of diabetes, it would be better to have all infections treated (MRSA also) with effective antibacterial regimens rather aggressively.

Any existing infection can spread via the blood stream or by contaminated hands, clothes, etc.

It would be good to practice safe sex until the infection resolves as there is the likelihood that you may pick up an infection leading to an UTI at least.

Try to boost his immune system with sufficient vitamin A and C supplements, fluids over 2000 ml, and effective glycemic control.

Do keep us posted on your doubts.
Regards

Well I can tell you this. I myself just battled a round of mrsa. was hospitalized for a week. Somehow abses started just below my scrotum which lead to bacteria infection which lead to epididymitis. Had a lingering pain for almost two weeks before I went to the ER. once arriving after pain became unbearable, testicles had swollen to the size fo two grapefruits which is what required the hospitalization, not to mention the mrsa No std involved whatsoever....

So sorry to hear that. MRSA is something else!!! Your right, it had nothing at all to do with a STD, it was just because of bacteria.

Thank you for your input and I hope you are doing well now.
