Abd. CT scan results after dx. stomach cancer

by Eljoy18, Jul 09, 2008 04:28PM
My Mother was incidentially found to have a few ulcers in the antrum of stomach biopsied positive for mostly signet cell adenocarcinoma infiltrating lamina propria. She had 1-2 month intermittent feelings of an early ulcer (she had before) like hunger pangs and sometimes indigestion. Her abd. CT san showed no signs of metastasis and did not even show the mass in the stomach. So should I worry about what it did show which is the following: 3mm low attenuation lesion left lobe liver and multiple bilat. low attenuation masses in the upper pole of both kidneys which did not enhance post contrast. The sizes of the lesions are, 9x9mm, 4x2.3mm, 6x6mm and 4x3mm. The Reader felt the liver one was probably a very small cyst and that the kidney ones were benign cortical cysts. She is next due to have an upper GI series and a PET scan. Otherwise she feels absolutly fine, eating up a storm etc.. She is a very active and healthy 82 yr old who swims , walks fast, looks about 60's. We do have a family history of pancreatic and colon cancer of which both of those areas were normal. Thanks so very much for your time and expertise! Ellen

Hi,

I must say your mother is doing great for her age.
It is quite possible that the mass in the liver and both kidneys are cysts. Since the abdominal CT scan is clear there is a possibility that this is an early stage cancer. Also the fact that she has a good appetite is a healthy sign. Further investigations which your mother will be undergoing will give a clear picture. Good luck!

Hi Dr. Noopur, She sure is and I'm very proud of that! Thank you so much for your response and kind words. The waiting for the tests and the results is torturous and rays of hope really help even though I know further studies need to be done. I'll keep you posted!  Have a good night. Ellen
