Oral Herpes and Marriage: Everyone please comment

by JoseReynolds, Jul 09, 2008 06:52PM

I got infected by Herpes simplex 1 and was tested positive. It's oral herpes in my case. I got a cold sore a month back.

I am still very confused about this disease. Some websites say that everyone has it and it causes a mild infection.

Is it just a mild infection, and can i live a normal life with herbal medicines (to support my immune system and avoid outbreaks) ?

I am getting married next year and i am confused if i should get married or stay single as I belong to a very respectable family and i cannot tell anyone about this.

Some forums say that it's better to get oral herpes(hsv 1) than herpes zoster(vzv/chickenpox) as chickenpox leads to more serious complications. Please comment on this.

What are the chances of living a normal life with oral herpes (hsv1) ? I am a IT professional and have to meet people very often. Would it now be tough for me to go at work with a smile?

Thanks,
Jose

It really should not be a big deal. I have read that 80% of humans have Oral HSV-1. I've had it for years now and it never has caused any problems for me. Sure, they cause discomfort and inconvience, but they are just that. If you cannot stand them, you could ask your doctor for a prescription for Valtrex.

In any case, having Oral HSV-1 has never caused any social problems for me. I have a fantastic girlfriend, two great jobs, I play collegiate rugby, and I too come from a respectable family. My father does not have Oral HSV-1, but my mother and little brother do. Its never caused them any problems. It shouldn't cause you any either, my friend.

As for your chances of living a normal life, I'd say the odds are up to you. It all depends on who or what controls your life.

Cheers
