Please help need to tel 5 year old that I am pegnant

by ASH317, Jul 10, 2008 09:07AM
I have a 5 year old son & he is rather attached to me.  he did tell me that he is my only baby & that i can only have another baby when he is big grown & married.  I recently found out that I am 8weeks pregnant.  The only factor that I am petrified of is how do I tell my 5 year old that I am indeed going to have another baby????  Please advise me as to how i would go about telling him.

My son was that way too but when I told him he would be a big brother and he have to help mommie take care of the baby he was very happy just explain to him that nothing will change when the new baby comes alongs you will love them both the same and he will still be your baby and the fun part is he gets to help mommie out! My son is also 5yrs old

I agree with Luv4kids explain to him that he will be playing a big part in the pregnancy and when your 2nd child arrives as he is the eldest he will need to help look after his lil bro or sis. Try and involve him in everything that involves preparing for the baby to so he dosent feel left out and some kids find this exciting and fun.

i agree with both of the people above. tell him he is big and grown up. he can help you out and look after the baby. he mite not like it at first but he will soon love being a big brother. tell him he'll be able to play games with some one now instead of mummy daddy all the time.

My daughter is three and we have just made her a part of everything.  She gets to help in anything baby from shopping to sanitizing bottles.  We have told her how special that she must be because God has picked her to be London's (my baby) big sister and how London will be her baby too.  She now tells everyone that when the baby comes out of my tummy she is going to be her child and how she is going to help and be the "bestest biggest sisy ever"  She seems to really accept it all.  Oh we also usually let her go in to part of the doc visits so she can ask her questions and feel like part of it (my OB is great).  She also gets to see part of every ultra sound and gets to have her very own picture which she showes to everyone very proudly.  We encourage her to talk to the baby and in general do be a huge part of every little thing.  I don't know if that helps but it's working for us.  Good luck.  Oh by the way, she was VERY against us having another baby because as she said "we already have a princess and don't need another one" before we started all this.
