Pain Medication

I have been taking lorcet 10/650 for a couple yrs due to severe back pain. My dr went from 90 a month to 300 a month. How can i get off of this medication since I hve been on it so long now. I also have notice some swelling in my ankles and feet could this be cause from the medication?

We have a wonderful addiction and substance abuse community here that could answer your question much better on how to quit taking the lorcet. If you need help getting there let me know. I would suggest tapering down on them but they have more knowledge than I do.
Swelling is not a side effect but many have complained of it while being on this medication.

Something else I wanted to mention is that is ALOT of tylenol and that will definitely damage your liver. Most Dr's will not prescribe over 5 a day, some 4 a day.

Do you no longer need the medication for pain control? Or are you just concerned about the long term affects? Maybe you need a change in mediation if the Dr has increased your monthly amount it sounds as if it is not effective in controling your pain. I could not consider getting off pain medication, so I am confused as to why you would want to stop.  I am no expert on that medication but I doubt that is the cause of your swelling. Have you asked you Dr about it? One of our community leaders can probaly answer that question better.

I would suggest asking your Dr about a long acting med and that way your taking much less and not taking all the tylenol. If you need the pain control and are not addicted but are concerned about the amount your taking this could help you.
If you feel like your addicted and want off this medication ask your Dr for help as he can offer you help in doing this.

Swelling of the hands and feet can defifitly be from Cirrosos and liver damage. Taking the amount of Tylenol can produce this effect. If you have any questions please Google  Symptoms of liver damage or contact me. I know a great deal about livers. Take care, Mollyrae

Im New at this so i didn't know to send a note or this so im sending both.  i have taken fluid pills for yrs and it'd only my ankles and a little on my feet. I have no other syntoms so what else would i look for

If your concerned with the swelling then I'd make an appt. with the dr. and have them run some liver tests. (Blood work). If your ALT, AST, ALP ect... Your dr. will know. If they are elevated then you might think about a Biopsy to determine the amount of inflammation. Other symptoms of the liver are sore muscles, joints, yellowing of the eyes, soreness under the right rib. Molly

IN the long run it could affect your liver but it would take serious abuse. How many are you taking a day? most Doctors will put you on anywhere from 6 to 12 a day depending on your problem. I wasnt worried about my liver just not wanting to live like that anymore and I got to where my body tricked me into thinking that I had to have it . The Withdrawls are no fun and all but you can make it through. I could help you taper if you need me to . Send me a message here or a PM and we will figure this out =) I have been on this awful roller coaster for a few years and just made the ride stop myself

I do not know of a single Dr today that would prescribe this drug and give a pt over 6 a day. The maximum dose is 6 a day and beyond that your looking for liver damage from all the tylenol. Liver damage is nothing to play around with, thats why most every PM today will not prescribe this drug for long term use. If one were to OD on tylenol there is nothing that anyone could do to bring you back. I would definitely lower the dose considerably and tell your Dr you need and want to get off of these. If you still need pain control there is many more option available to you
