Alesse / Aviane

by Prizma, Jul 10, 2008 11:27AM
Well I was off the BCP for several months and went back on it for a few reasons. I had some packs left over from the last time I was on the pill and basically my BCP cycle was this: Othro Tricycline for one month, Ortho Tricycline-lo for the next month, and then my doctor put me on Alesse. The pharmacy gave me Aviane (the generic version) and I though ok, whatever. I wanted something with a low dose of hormones that was good for the skin etc.

After three months on Aviane, I've noticed one specific side effect... incredible anger and rage. I'm a very patient person and this is not like me. I've been nauseated and have been developing the darkened patches on my face, but the anger is the worst for me. I've decided to stop using the BCP once and for all. Although I like the clear skin (I'm 30 and still get the lovely hormonal acne) and knowing when my period starts, the anger, excessive hunger, and being tired all the time has not been pleasant.

In March I was put on Cymbalta and have been doing wonderful on that so I don't know if the Aviane is having a reaction with it? or? Has anyone else noticed extreme anger/mood swings while being on Aviane?

I started out with Alesse back 7 years ago and I hated the side effects.  It made me very moody and angry.  I was a total wreck.  I lasted about 2 months and then went to Loestrin FE and had been on it until December of last year when hubby and I decided we wanted to a family.  Loestrin is a low dosage and it worked well with me.
