AF questions

by carebear0202, Jul 10, 2008 01:05PM
Can anyone shed some more light for me because I am having a hard time explaining what is going on with me... I had an ectopic pregnancy surgery on April 27, 2008 resulting in losing my left tube. I bled for about 7-8 days after surgery which I believe was just from surgery and all that trauma I went through... anyway, I have not had a cycle since. My husband and I continued ttc beginning the 10th of May. Nothing. I asked my ob why no period yet and he said I needed to relax and my body lost a lot of blood that day and blah blah blah... So on the 3rd of July I was so tired of waiting, I called the doc and I then got Prometrium. 12 pills and started that day...so I have taken 7 pills already and I have plenty of cramps but nothing...is possible that I still won't have a period? Could I be in some kind of menopause at age 34 because of the surgery?  Could my body still think it is prego because I didn't actually lose the baby naturally, it had to be removed for me???? I am so tired of this..I used to have a normal cycle before all this. Does anybody have any suggestions on what else I can do? I'm just dying over here and my 35th birthday is July 18th. I am feeling like I am rushing to beat the clock and my body just won't cooperate with me. I don't want to keep bugging the doc's office but this just isn't right to me. I never did have my blood drawn again after surgery( doc said I wouldn't need too because he removed it all) I still have both ovaries and only the right tube....I just don't get it. I am definetly not pregnant. I take a test all the time...I'm so bummin...

Sorry for your loss and your troubles.  I know its frustrating, but wait until after you finish the Prometrium, your period should start 7-10 days after your last pill.  If still no period, then call doctor again.

There could be many reasons your period hasn't come yet, but could just be stress.  After my first m/c, it took about 4 months and doc said that was the likely reason.  I took Prometrium and it finally came, then another month before my body was "normal".

I seriously doubt your are in menopause, the surgery would not do that.  It is also highly likely there is any pregnancy hormones in your system at this point...whether you m/c naturally or have surgery that shouldn't matter.

I know this is so frustrating, but try to relax if you can.  I'm 41 so definitely know the rush to beat the clock feeling.  But even with one tube gone and almost 35, you still have a very good chance of a successful pregnancy soon.

Thank you for responding. So you think it might just take a little more time...I couldn't seem to find anybody else that has or had been waiting as long as I for AF! Started to think that I was a bit of a mystery. Yes very frustrating! I am now not so worried about getting pregnant again as much as I want to be normal first to get the chance to ttc! Such a long time ya know! Thank you again and lots of luck to you also!

I had an ectopic 8 years ago with my ex partner.  I didn't have any tube removed - they "milked" it out instead.  I don't remember how long it took me for AF to arrive again but I would think it was about 6 or so weeks.

I'm surprised that they didn't check your HCG levels after your op.  I had to go back after 2 weeks to make sure mine had gone to 0.  I don't think at this stage there would be any hcg left in your body.

I think stress is a huge contributory to AF not showing but your body has been through a traumatic ordeal and is still getting back to normal.  I wouldn't worry if your doctor is not worried.

Good luck
