Antibodies

by Grandmagrandpa, Jul 10, 2008 02:58PM
I have had several Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies test over 4 years with different results. Two showed High results and 2 others showed normal. I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease. Can the antibodies appear and disappear or do you always have them?

Antibody titers rise and fall. There are four or five different ones, and it is possible to have three or four different types.

It is generally felt that once you have them, you always have them. The questions in your case to ask are; have you been tested for several antibodies?

A diagnosis of Grave's should be based on the presence on TSI antibodies.

The other question that begs asking is, what is "high"? Was your TPOab 980 and dropped to 15? Or was it 53 and dropped to 12? A drop of twenty or thirty points would not be unussual.

There are several scenarios where your TPOab or TGab may drop considerably, but autoimmune diseases are not curable. Since they are not curable, and are caused by rogue antibodies, logic says the antibodies do not go away.

Love your answer to this one as I'm waiting for baited breath for the results of the antibodies from last week. Mine had gone from 1 to 20 in one month last time if you, so it will be interesting to see what happens this time! I'm assuming they will go up again. But whatever the case, I'm hoping it might also help GrandmaGrandpa who posted this question when they see what happens to mine.
