kitty wound

by StacyCPHT, Jul 10, 2008 06:01PM
My friend's cat who is an outdoor warrior has a cut on one arm and the arm is swollen and warm. She does not have vet money being a single mom. Any at-home suggestions?  Can cats use human antibiotics? Should it be opened up to drain? I know cats can take a small dose of aspirin like dogs for pain relief? I told her about the ASPCA and she will call tomorrow to see if free vet services are available.... Thanks

Amoxicillin is a safe cat antibiotic. the dosage is generally 1 milligram per pound. If it doesn't seem to be working you can double the dose for one or two administrations until there're signs of improvement.

Don't give your cat aspirin. It's very dangerous and generally should only be administered by an expert. If the cat is running a fever in the 104 range (102 is normal high range) then you can risk it...but it is a risk.
