Hi all. After a recent exposure, one thing is eating away at me and I'd REALLY like some answers! Is HIV-1C really a lot easier to get through unprotected vaginal intercourse than HIV-1B? I read a stat, 1 in 10 risk!!! Thanks to any one who answers...

The ans is no. C is no worse than B and B is not worse than C.

Thanks for your input. I really want to agree with you, but there are developing world studies that put the risk much higher with 'C' and 'E'. Still, whatever the stats, the fact is an exposure is still an exposure, so testing is the only way to know for sure. Thanks again, anyway.

There is no data that indicates that one subtype is easier transmitted than the other.  Subtypes C and E just happen to be dominant in Africa and Asia, where HIV is mostly seen in general heterosexual population.
