Freaking out years later

by nirvana1620, Jul 11, 2008 03:20AM
My girlfriend and I have been together for about 4 years now and before we were together we were both involved in serious relationships having unprotected sex.  After being together for about a month and half to two months I noticed from what I remember what looked to be a chancre.  It was a little bit itchy but not very painful, I'm ashamed to say that I didn't mention this to her.  We've been together for four years and I haven't had any problems at all.  She has never said anything about discomfort or problems and regularly gets pap tests.  I've kind of put that thing on my penis out of mind as it hasn't effected me since then, but now I worry that I may have syphilis after reading about the lack of symptoms, I didn't have any rashes, loss of hair or major illnesses. But I know that doesn't mean I'm in the clear for sure.  I've gotten an aids test every year but couldn't make the leap to get all the std's checked I guess because I haven't really had any problems since then.  My concern is the fact that there may be permenent damage being done to my or her body.  I don't know why I started obsessing over this now but I"m really nervous and don't know how to explain me getting a std test now without making it seem like i've been cheating even though I have been faithful.  I hate to sound overly paranoid but I remember when we first hooked up she asked if I had aids and was really worried, I was shocked to be honest, and then I remember her saying that she doesn't care about the other stuff cause you just take a pill and it's gone.  Sorry to ramble but do you think she could have given it to me?  I was with my previous partner about 3 months prior to having the sore, and I began seeing my current girlfriend sexually about two months before the sore occoured.  Thanks you and sorry to talk so long I read about syphilis and saw a cancre and thought it looked like what I had and I've been flipping.

You are leaping here when you start thinking about who gave it to whom, because you don't even know if you have it.

Just go get a test and find out.

If you do have it, you are both going to need treatment, and its going to be a series of shots, probably one a week for 3 weeks.

If your sore was a chancre, given the timing, it would see as if she did give it to you.  But please don't worry about that right now.  You just need to test.
