i have heard that if a person has an upset stomach a that peppermint candy can help can it help a dogs stomach?

Sweets can kill a dog, depending on what kind of dog you have. It can cause serious digestive upset to say the least. I was always told to make a mixture of hamburger and rice and to take the normal diet away for a few days until the issues calm themselves. I definately would not use sweet candies for anything in a dog.
