Ovarian Cyst or Neoplasm?

by Nenalicia, Jul 11, 2008 10:41PM
I am a very healthy 20 y.o. with an IUD. I went to the hospital with abnormal bleeding, large clots and very heavy flow, enough to fill a super plus tampon in about 10 minutes or less. I went in and they did an internal exam and also an ultrasound, both internal and external. I was not told this, but when I got home I read through my test resluts that I was given to give to my doctor, and they say that "posterior to the uterus, most likely arising from the left ovary, (note that it say *most likely*) is a 6.7x3.9x6.8 cm cystic structure. This has no internal soft tissue components or septations. Minimal echoes within this may represent reverberation artifact or debris." It later reads " I would recommend follow-up in 8 weeks to confirm resolution. This would exclude the remote possibility of neoplasm." What does that mean. Is it more likely a cyst or neoplam. And if it is neoplasm what does that mean? I googled it so i have a general idea but what do I need to do?

please follow up with a gyn and bring this report .... he can make a comparison
i used to be an emt and we would have taken u to the hospital to get this checked
... since u already went and they cleared u please follow up with ur gyn ...
i would consider the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy in this case and then work
on the issue of cysts with the gyn once that the pregnancy has been ruled out
(hcg levels could give a false negative in an ectopic preg)
if ur bleeding returns to that heavy flow or if u experience extreme abdominal pain
or nausea and dizziness
please return to the ER post haste
if the flow has settled down to your normal schedule an appointment with a gyn
best of luck to ya
praying for u
sharon
