Prostatitis?

by ScottyNeedsHelp, Jul 12, 2008 10:08PM
HI, I had prostatitis two years ago, went to several doctors while I was in Iraq and after thirty days on 100mg twice a day doxy a doctor gave me 500mg once daily Cipro.  It went away.  I recently began having the same symptoms but now with the added pain at the area where the head of my penis and the shaft meet.  I only normally feel the sharp pain when I'm in the shower and the water hits the area directly.

I had a colonoscopy 2 1/2 weeks ago and my prostate was enlarged.  The doctor gave me a prescription for 21 days of 500mg once daily Levo.  I also went and had an STD panel done on the 26th of June.  Please don't pass judgement on me as I just returned from Iraq and the only way I could've gotten anything was from my wife.  Anyway, I'm positive for Chlamydia.  After a few days of being on the Levo those symptoms went away.  What I'm afraid of that I took so many of the Levo that my body has grown immunity to it that I still have it.  I haven't touched my wife since I found out in fact we no longer live together.  I have also not been with anyone else and I will not until all is resolved.  Anyway, the point here is when I had prostatitis two years ago what I'm feeling now, frequent and strong urge to urinate, never feeling like I'm completely done, pink urethra and painful ejaculation.  I've tested negative for everything else.  I also had an STD panel when I first had prostatitis two years ago; all negative.

It is hard to convince anyone at a clinic that these symptoms are prostatitis; they all suggest STD.  If that is the case then my chlamydia has not been cured.  How do I go about getting that handled?

Hi

We need to confirm that the chlamydial infection has completely resolved. A urethral secretion culture may be done to help determine if the infection is still present. Also, a repeat urinalysis may be done to rule out a urinary tract infection. Prostate secretion culture and transrectal ultrasound may be done to rule out a prostate infection. These are objective ways to rule out a prostate involvement. Prostatitis may recur and they may eventually become chronic. The culture of prostate secretion is the diagnostic of choice when prostatitis is still suspected.
