What can it be?

by danyell74, Jul 13, 2008 02:01AM
My sister has had an echo with bubbles. The results have shown minimal mitral valve regurgitation, trivial tricuspid valve regurgitation, some thickening of the mitral valve leaflets, and elevated right ventricular pressure. She does not have PFO or an atrioseptal defect as they had suspected. She is having some problems with shortness of breath. She also has occurrences of weakness, especially on the right side, some loss of trunk control, and what appears to be almost seizure like activity. We are both nurses, and she is seeing a doctor, but we are not getting anywhere quick. Do you have any idea what we could be dealing with?

I recently had an echocardiogram with a bubble study, also looking for confirm a PFO (did not find one...YEAH).  The test was prompted because of a temporary loss of vision in one eye.  Once the bubble study ruled out PFO, I had an MRI to check for TIA and/or stroke.  Also negative.  The doctor thinks the incident was probably a variation of an occular migraine.

Has your sister seen a neurologist?  The one-sided weaknesses and "some loss of trunk control" could indicate a neuro problem....

Hi,
I am going through testing right now to try and figure out what caused a TIA that I had back on Aug 8th.  I have had the Echo with Bubble and there where bubbles in the third chamber but they could not confirm a PFO based on the test results.  I am getting a referral to Cardiology and I had a CAT scan and a contrasted MRI back on Aug 8th and they confirmed no Stroke, no tumor, no anurism and no brain bleeding.  Tomorrow I meet with the "Stroke Resident" of the Neurology Dept. at MGH so everyone is telling me that I am in good hands and that I just need to go through the tests and see what happens.

So what can cause bubbles in the third chamber that is not an ADS or a PFO?
