Graves Disease or Iodine Toxicity

by ganno, Jul 13, 2008 03:59AM
Hello Dr,
my past history is - 15 yrs ago an unexplained neuro illness Aseptic Meningitis ? Meningoencephalopathy ? ( ill for 2 yrs) 10 yrs ago 1 episode of atrial fibrillation .My current question is as follows recently after getting sick in Oct 2006 it was discovered in Feb 2008 that I had high TPO antibodies but was euthyroid, the reason for investigation was - I had the following symptoms - heavy tiredness, concentration problems, tremors, strange explosions in my head ( felt like I was having a split second stroke ), myoclonus jerks, low temperature, migraines, palpatations, chest pain, anxiety, irritable, mood swings, tingling in my hands and feet, constant resp infections, joint pain , muscle aches slightly uncoordinated .  Had a SPECT Scan which showed mild cerebral hypoperfusion post the stroop test. Therefore I was tried on a T3/T4 extract which made me very ill - TPO antibodies went up but still I was euthyroid. The GP then tried giving me Lugols solution which I was on for 2 months. Most of the symptoms come and go , but I never feel healthy enough to lead a normal life .Recently I felt alot of the activation symptoms - anxiety, iritable, palpatations, heavy fatigue, so my thyroid was tested - TPO - 1500, T4 37 T3 13 - so I was sent to an Endo who is ? Graves Disease or Iodine induced hyperthyroidism ? and could these TPO antibodies have any relation to these neuro symptoms ?
