MS or Lupus? Please help.

by Ktry, Jul 13, 2008 11:36AM
I've been having some neurological issues and am seeing two neurologists.   Doc #1 says I have MS.  Doc #2 has not seen my brain MRI yet, but seems to be leaning towards MS. Doc #2 is sending me for more testing including an EEG (?) and an antiphosplalipid.  Doc #1 sent me for all the normal MS mimicking blood tests and all have been normal.  Except I have high cholesterol. I'm 31, but it runs in my family on both sides.

I'm experiencing short-term memory loss, depression, tingling in legs, extreme fatigue,  vertigo, pins & needles, loss of words, chronic back pain, weakness in legs, etc. Doc #2 found that my right pupil shows optical neuritis & that I have a patch of flesh on my mid-back extending to my side that responds to touch as if I have a lesion on my spinal cord.

I have a history of 1 miscarriage. I was pregnant with twins, and Baby A died at 4 mos in utero. After the birth of Baby B, my OB discovered a huge blood clot in the placenta. Baby B was born with Aplasia Cutis Congenita probably as a result of this bloodclot. Also the placenta was very small. I was gardening & I now have what I think is poison ivy on my face. It doesn't appear to be the typical lupus rash & its very itchy.  I have no joint pain. Unfortunately Doc #2 has a busy schedule & cannot see me until October.  In the meantime, Doc #1 wants to get me started on an MS drug. What should I do? I cannot wait 3 months to figure out what is wrong with me.

This is what my MRI report reads:
-multiple lesions of high T2 and T2 flair signal intensity in the bilateral periventrical and deep white matter which are suspicious of demyelinating lesions. 1 of these lesions demonstrates minimal enhancement in the right periventrical white matter.

-there are questionable foci of very subtle increased T2 signal intensity at the left posterior pons ans left anterior medulla

- there is a small enhancing developmental venous anomaly at the right frontal lobe.

Given all this information, would you be leaning more towards MS or Lupus (ANS?).  Thanks so much.

P.S. I had 2 healthy children before the miscarriage. Also I meant to say Hughe's disease not ANS.  Thanks
