What happened may be the phenomenon called 'amaurosis fugax' also known as 'transient monocular blindness'. The eyesight would usually recover but only to a certain extent.
This can indeed be caused by blood pressure problems, as well as possible transient ischemic attacks or small strokes. It is best that all the factors contributing to this be controlled, such as control of hypertension, lowering of cholesterol, or controlling of blood sugar (if applicable).
