Gaining weight

by star_girl, Jul 14, 2008 11:27AM
So im 18 weeks pregnant and i havent been gaining that much weight, i lost 3 pounds in a month then gained 2 in a month and i go to the doctor next week so im hoping that i will gain more.  I look like im getting bigger my belly grows all the time and all i feel like im doing is eating all day long.  Yet when i went to my nutritionist today their scale said i only gained 1 lbs.  and shes freaking out on me and saying what are you doing, not eating?  It really frustrates me because i am and im trying so hard.  I have always been the skinny girl who never gains weight, and now im trying so hard to and just cant.  How is that at all my fault?

Im just sick of all the looks and and disappointments people give me.  I came home and cried after i saw her today.  Given i know scales are different so i'm hoping when i go see my doctor next week that it says something different but still it really gets me down, and makes me feel like im not being a good host site for this child.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Unless your OB says that they are concerned.  I didn't gain any weight AT all...in fact I lost some weight my first trimester.  I ended up gaining 35 pounds total throughout the entire pregnancy.  I just have always had a REALLY fast metabolism.

As long as you are eating and making sure that you are getting the recommended calories a day...it should be fine.  My daughter ended up weighing 7 lbs 12 oz...and was perfectly healthy.  (OH and she was born a week early!)

A website that was REALLY helpful to me was babyfit.com

Try it out...it really kept me on track for eating healthy and getting the recommended calories/vitamins everyday!

I'm sorry you're feeling down... but try not to worry too much. I lost 15 pounds in my first trimester due to HG and I felt like the worst mom EVER... I eventually gained it back and now the weight seems to be piling on really fast. You will probably find it easier to gain weight further into your pregnancy, especially when your baby starts putting on weight (after 30 weeks the baby gains about 1/2 pound a week!). When I was sick I had to meet w/a nutritionist... she told me to eat lots of protein (meat is a great source but I couldn't stomach it, so I ate a lot of yogurt and peanut butter), full-fat dairy products (no light stuff!), and whole grain breads and pastas. The dairy really helped me gain the weight and also get lots of calcium and protein, so I would suggest that. Be sure to keep taking your prenatal vitamins, too.

Don't doubt your abilities to carry a healthy & happy baby and to be a wonderful mom. If you weren't a great mom you wouldn't be so worried about your weight, and so eager to gain it for your little one! You're doing fine! :)

thanks ladies!  I too have a really fast metabolism.  Its reassuring to hear others were this way too.  It just gets me down when people look at me and think god what is she doing not eating?

I'll def. check out that site, sounds like a good one!  Thanks again!!
