Burps and Anxiety

by Nasal_Problems, Jul 14, 2008 12:33PM
Hi,

I know this is silly, but I figured I'd ask. I've noticed that whenever I tend to have panic attacks I seem to burp more often. Is there a reason for this?

How funny, I just read something about this, and the answer is yes. Those of us that suffer from Anxiety tend to burp more often......weird I know, but it said that we take in a lot more air, thus causing burping. I thought it was kind of funny!

Hi Kristine. It's weird. For me, panic starts from breathing. I typically feel as though I'm not getting enough air. Then I burp. If what you said is correct, I'm actually getting too much air.

Anyone know any ways (training techniques) to ensure that you release all of your air when you breath out?

One of the relaxation techniques that I learned in one of my yoga classes is to count your breath, so say inhale for 3 seconds, but exhale for 6. So you double on your exhale. This is also super helpful because it forces you to concentrate on your breathing, rather than on your attack.

Best of Luck to you! Hope this helps you!
