Gastritis is inflammation of gastric (stomach) mucosa. In your case it may be caused by bile flowing back from duodenum into the stomach (bile reflux). This often ocurs in various galbladder disorders. Other common cause of gastritis is H. pylori infection of the stomach.

You might want to have
1. Breath test for H. pylori
2. Ultrasound of gallbladder

will i need to see the doctor or a specialist  for any medication, cause they didnt say at the hospital.

First you need diagnosis by the help of above tests, done by gastroenterologist. Discussion about medications comes after this.

before the test i was on 15mg lansprazole. if the doctor tell me to just take them again with no referal, would that be acceptable as at the moment ive been having problems with my doctor, especially when it comes to tests and referals.

It may be appropriate to continue with lansprazole. If you have symptoms like burping, upper abdominal bloating, early satiety, then these are symptoms of H. pylori infection, for which diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics is needed and lansprazole will not be enough.

So it all depends on symptoms. Doctor will surely refuse additional tests with no reason. But if you're not feeling well, you should insist on further evaluation.

**..will refuse additional tests, if there will be no reason for them.

went to g.p and said i have gastritis and to continue with the lansprazole which is 2x15mg per day and an extra 1 if i need it.
said to also loose weight, which i've been trying most of my adult life.
didnt say anything about the bile reflux though which im assumming would be the same medication.
im not sure if this is how it should be left now as i dont really have alot of faith in my doctor, especially when i took my son with chicken pox in 2 weeks ago and he miss diagnosed him with molliescum contagious.

i will carry on with medication and hope that no further symptoms appear.
the only thing that is troublesom is the regurgitation after food and drink.

You'll see after some days, if medications work for you. But this will not heal the bile reflux. So, if you won't get better after some time, ask for ultrasound of gallbladder.

i had an ultrasound 30th jan08 and gallbladder and bile ducts were normal, is it possible to have changed over the months?

by boron, Jul 18, 2008 01:04AM
The problem is that ultrasound can't show all the stones or biliary sludge - the dense bile which can block bile ducts. So, you might want to have HIDA scan - a test of gallbladder function, or MRCP, which is a MRI investigation of bile duct.

well i can tell you now that my G.P wont be sending me for any of those unless of course i'm on my death bed.
it's a real shame that you just cant speak to a specialist directly and not only through a referal from the doctor.
i'll probably have to put up with this for a few months and then if not noticed a difference i'll go back and see what he has to say apart from ibs which seems to be he's fav dianosis and loose weight.

thanks for your help, wish you were my DR. you seem to know alot more than mine and are at least syperthectic.
