Sleeping Anxiety

by KrisDag, Jul 14, 2008 09:04PM
Okay so I have been dealing with anxiety since I was 16 but just recently I have had a new "issue". I recentley learned what sleep apniea was, and now of course I go to bed and I'll fall asleep for about 10 20 mins and out of the blue I will wake up feeling like I am not breathing or have an irregular heart beat. During the day I am fine, no weird feelings in my stomach like I have when I am trying to go to sleep. Just the past couple of nights I have only gotten like an hour or two of sleep because I am so afraid I am going to stop breathing. Has anyone else ever experinced anything like this? Could this all be in my head??? Any advice or comments would be great!

Namaste,

If this issue started after finding out about sleep apnea and it's only been a couple of days, it appears as if it's related to you're anxiety rather than actual sleep apnea, since you would have several awakenings without actually knowing about them.

I can;t make a diagnosis in this forum, but I think you just need to do a little more research on sleep apnea and it's true symptoms and causes and hopefully that will alleviate your fears.

Your other option is to get tested for sleep apnea, which is usually conducted in a sleep lab and will require an overnight stay and possibly additional tests.

Whatever you decide, I don't think it's anything you have to be overly concerned with.
