Is it really trigeminal neuralgia or teeth that don't like root canals???

by ann0908, Jul 14, 2008 10:20PM
I have had four root canals done in the past year 3,14,19 and 31.  Teeth had not so deep filllings but bothered all the time.  Thay all ahve been achey and bothersome off and on since filled February.  Seen my dentist put on antibiotics, bite adjustments and nightguards with little relief.  Referred to endodontist and he rec'd retreating the worst one and if pain still persist move on to the next painful one.  Not really seeing anything wrong with my x-rays.  Seen an Neurologist, MRI done that  was within normal limits.  Rec'd trying Tegretal(thinking it was trigeminal neuralgia) if the pain became bad again.  I'm now on my forth week of taking tegretal with little relief.  I'm confused to think if it is me teeth or trigeminal reuralgia. I don't have all the gorrible symptoms of some people I read about with trigeminal neuralgia making me think differently.   I'm sick of my teeth always bothering me.  I'm 26 very healthy married and wanting to start a family soon but can't while taking this medication.  Do you think trying to retreat a tooth would help me eliminate what's going on with me.  Need some advice.  Who do i go to next for help!!!!     frustrated, Emily

Seeing a competent occlusion dentist or tmj specialist is advised.
