Will depakote help the withdrawls?

by wishin49, Jul 14, 2008 10:31PM
I have to quit taking 80-100mg a day of oxycodone and percocet.  I've tried before and the W/D symptoms were horrid.  Twisting in bed, high anxiety not able to do anything are the price I have to pay.  My addiction was 2 fold first benzos then opiates after 3 shoulder/neck surgeries.  To be totally honest I became opoid dependant soon after the pain was gone.  The Dr. gave me depakote when I asked to increase my clonopin dosage.  Now clonapin seems like a day in the park compared to the opiate withdrawls.  I know they give depakote to some people in re hab.  I'm supposed to take it b4 bed but if it helps I'll take it during the day.  Any suggestions or advice will surely be appreciated.

Depakote is a drug for bi-polar and seizures. It won't help opiate withdrawls at all.

well it may help with the depression associated with the w/d?  Just not widely used.  It can make you quite drowsy, so may actually help w/the insomnia assoc w/ withdrawl.  It is pretty hard on the liver, so be careful with this med.  I think i'd just try to stick to the Klonopin at the dose you have and only take this as an absolute last resort.

To: Everyone
Its good to know that there is a site like this.  I've tried detoxing before, obviously I failed.
My mind seems to turn from my best friend into a nightmare of restlessness and anxiety. Thanx to everyone who cared enough to reply, I'll be back to this site from time to never ending time.

My experience with depakote was before my addiction.... and I am not bi-polar but I was put on it due to mis diagnosis...but I gained MASSIVE amounts of weight before I knew it. I mean 60lbs in 3months... and the dr's were dumbfounded...as if it wasn't the depakote...and they never tested my liver or told me it needed to be tested. As you can see I am not a big fan... but I did want to warn you of the weight gain....not sure how long you have been on it.
