What symptoms go away after a thyroidectomy?

I am having a total thyroidectomy on Friday and I was wondering the time frame in which the symptoms of hyperthyroidism/Graves start to go away or if they do at all?  Has anyone noticed or kept track of certain symptoms that go away or improve after this procedure?  I have a whole list of symptoms and was thinking that yes I'm having my thyroid removed, but hyperthyroidism is a symptom of Graves.  So will the Graves symptoms be controlled or relived when my thyroid is removed?  One symptom I have with a vengeance is the heat intolerance; I feel like I can't do anything without over heating, it makes me nauseous.  Even simple cleaning makes me too hot and I start to sweat, then shake, and then the muscle weakness starts to kick in; oh, and the fatigue.  I have a HUGE thyroid/goiter, and I am now counting the days to my surgery so I can swallow, talk, sing, and even breath normal again; but what other things will I notice and how far out will that be?  What other symptoms are aided in the removal of the thyroid?  I know this is vague, but I'll take anything - has anyone noticed anything?

I do not have Graves but have had a partial thyroidectomy.  I know without having Grave's it is a matter of time to level off when one begins hormone replacement.  Not sure in regard to your situation but wanted to say hello.

That's an interesting question and I hope you get more answers.  I didn't know I was going through anything before surgery so I can't address it.  But I want to wish you luck with your surgery and will be thinking of your well-being.  We'll be here for you.

I had hyper/graves, that is why they removed my entire thyroid. All my sysmptoms went away, the fast heart rate, the weight loss, the over heating, my organs went back to normal. The muscles, bone aches went away as well. I used to get cramps a lot. Once it comes out and you are put on the correct dosage your body will go back to normal. The only thing that stuck with me was the insomnia. I had it removed almost 14yrs ago. I do not regret getting it out. Graves will reek havoc on your entire body and organs. My body acted like i was diabetic, my kidneys were starting to act up, my heart rage was at 140 sitting down. Trust me, don't mess with graves diseases/hyperthyroidism.

My brain fog seemed to go away almost immediately. I had Hashimoto's though, not Graves.
