Hi,
The discharge can be due to bacterial or fungal infections. If you have a fungal infection the belly button will look red, and the redness may extend to the surrounding skin, associated with itching.

Fungi usually thrive in warm, moist environments. You can apply anti-fungal ointments like Monistat which will take care of yeast infections, the most common fungi residing on the skin.

If it is a bacterial discharge it will be yellowish in color and thick in consistency. You can clean the area with an anti-septis solution and apply an antibacterial like Mupirocin.

Any other kind of discharge or any other associated symptoms like fever etc. requires you to be investigated further.
