Vitrectomy

by jeanie531, Jul 15, 2008 12:35PM
I'm a 76 yr.male with a cataract that has caused my vision to go from 20/64 to 20/200 in the last 3 yrs.  It is recommended to me by my Retina Dr to have vitrectomy surgery to repair retina scar tissue, developed over the years, and then remove cataract after healing from vitrectomy.  Do you feel this is the best sequence for removal of the cataract?
My other eye has gone from 20/25 to 20/40 in the last 3 years
Thanks for your help

Go by your surgeon's direction. It's done both ways and sometimes the retina surgeon does a cataract operation/IOL insertion at the same time (done if that's the only way they can see the retina).
