It depends on various factors. It could take anywhere from a month to three months to get somewhere close to normal. Part of it depends on how much medication you are on. Part of it depends on what is wrong with your thyroid.

I have had my TSH drop 40 points in a week before. On the other hand, I've been trying to find normal for two years.

How fast your TSH will drop depends on how much replacement hormone they have you on. If you're on 100mcg of Synthroid or Levothyroxine it might fall below 5.0 in a month or two. If you're on 25mcg, it might take a lot longer.

"Normal" is elusive, and many doctors have no clue what normal is supposed to be. 1.0 is fairly close to normal.

Any symptoms you have will not go away until you get down below 2.0, and then some symptoms will cease quickly, and some symptoms will take a few months to go away.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi  AR is so informative..helped me immensly.

My experience:  TSH at 129 and put on 50 mcg.  I  was increased throughout the summer of 2007 and began noticing subtle changes with each adjustment.  My Dr stated that because I was starving for the meds, I should see results fairly quickly.

All are different.  Keep a list of your symptoms and hopefully your Dr will listen to you.

Best wishes
