Pain and burning

by Cindee56, Jul 15, 2008 03:59PM
Hi, I have very frequent bowel movements which the doctor thinks are caused by IBS.  Lately it's very bad.  I have other health issues too.  But what is really bothering me is the burning and pain in the rectum area from going to the bathroom so much.  I have tried the Prep. H ointment and cream and the Tucks pads but this seems to make it burn worse.  It's very painful.

The doctor wants me to get a colonoscopy, it's past time, I'm 52 yrs. old.  But I am so afraid of the *cleaning out* part because of the burning pain from repeat bm's.  I keep putting it off.  Any ideas on what to do?

Thank you.

having the prep for a colonoscopy is not a easy thing and it can be un-comfortable u can limit your diet for a few days before and keep it pretty bland
the first one i had i thought it would never stop and its embarrassing the second one i was more prepared i took the diet easy about 3 days before and it was all over in a hour.
it would be important for u to have a colonoscopy to get a proper diagnosis and to
receive proper treatment for this in the long run
i dont thing there is any easy way to do it -it is generally done the day before at home .....
in the meantime
u could also try anti-diarrheals meds to help slow down bowel transit
psyllium husks are good for bulking the stool
l-glutamine is also good to heal the digestive tract

Thank you for responding.  I'm still scared.  I'll talk to the doctor about it.  I am really a coward with anything involving the stomach/bowels!
