Answers if possible please!!

My 62 yr old Mother went for a mammogram last 2 weeks ago and there was a suspicious mass. The doctor had her follow up with a breast compression and and ultrasound, which confirmed the 2 white spots (one is not symmetrical and is 4mm in size and can be felt). They did not do any pictures of her lymph nodes, nor did they do a palpitation. The radiologist said the test was normal, but her doctor said to go to the surgeon and let them decide. My Mother did not go for her mammogram last year as she had forgotten, but the tests from 2 years ago showed no white areas and she could not feel the lump that she now has. I am wondering.....is it normal practice not to do pics or exam of the lymph nodes, especially when there are abnormalities in the breast? Could the white areas indicate cancer? I am just very concerned about my Mother and her health. I am questioning whether I should insist that she come up to NH where she could go to Mass General or Dartmouth Hitchcock where I know she would receive excellent care. Also, her cholesterol has almost doubled (high 200's) since last year and none of her eating habits or lifestyle has changed. Could this correlate with her possibly having this growth in her breast?
I would deeply appreciate any advice/ help anyone can offer!!

Hi,

What other symptoms does your mother have?

Generally with a breast exam an examination of the neighboring lymph nodes by palpitation is done. It becomes all the more relevant since there is a breast lump.

It is very difficult to say if the lump is cancer without a biopsy. I would suggest you to schedule an appointment with a surgeon as soon as possible so that an exact diagnosis can be made.
